Welcome

Brent and I met for the first time in the summer of 2009, when he was playing a softball game in Eastman and I was there with mutual friends. We didn't meet again until October 11, 2009, when those mutual friends set us up on a blind date. We went to La Crosse to Red Lobster and didn't say a whole lot to each other as our friends dominated the conversation. It worked to my advantage though because I got asked on a second date because we didn't get to talk much.

It didn't take long for us to realize we had something special. We spent the spring and summer spending as much time together as possible.

On Oct. 28, 2010 I had spent the day at work and then covering a sporting event at night. It hadn't been a good day. When I got home I was surprised to see Brent had dinner made and Glee on (my favorite show). Normally he made fun of the show the entire time it's on but this time he simply let me watch. After the show ended he suggested we watch another show I enjoy. Afterward we were discussing life matters when he pulled me close and told me he never wanted to lose me. I thought something might be up but didn't read too much into it.

Shortly afterward we decided to go up to bed. While in bed we were discussing our future in vague terms. Brent mentioned that one of his coworkers was asking why he hadn't proposed yet and was giving him a hard time about it. I said that I felt if you're with the person you're meant to be with, you'll have a moment where it becomes clear that this is right. And that you can't force the moment or anticipate it, but that if you truly are meant to be with someone, then you'll know when the moment happens. And Brent said, "well, what if I've already had that moment?" That was when my head went on a fog. We'd discussed this before but never had he said something like that. That was when he looked deep in my eyes and asked me to marry him.

No kidding, I thought he was kidding. I hadn't expected him to propose, let alone propose when he did. He wasn't down on one knee, he didn't have a ring in his hand, nothing. I just sat there in silence trying to decide if he was serious or if this was the meanest joke ever. The first thing out of my mouth, after probably the longest silence in the history of the world, was "are you serious?" That was repeated several times before he finally got out of bed to get the ring to prove to me. Then I switched to "oh my god you're serious." Finally Brent asked if I was going to answer him and that was when I put my arms around him and said yes.

Rather than getting married in Iowa where we both live or in any of our hometowns, we decided we wanted to do something special and have a destination wedding. We chose Maui because it was someplace we both have wanted to visit but didn't feel we had the time or the money to go. We are getting married Oct. 22, 2011 at the Maui Tropical Plantation, near Wailuku. The wedding will take place near the gazebo in the plantation gardens, with a lagoon and the mountains in the background.

We will likely go out after the wedding, either barbequing at our house after the wedding or going out to eat. In the spring, 2012 we will hold a reception back in Harper's Ferry, IA.

We are getting married on the island of Maui. The wedding itself if in the central part of the island at the Maui Tropical Plantation. The nearest airport is OGG in Kahului. People who stay on the east side can expect an hour and a half drive to the wedding site. Staying on the west side near Lahaina can expect a 30 minute drive.

Brent and I plus our wedding party are staying in rental house in Wailea, which is south of Kihei in the south central part of the island. From there it's about a 30 minute drive from the airport and a 20 minute drive to the ceremony site. To view information on the house see http://www.vacationrentalsonmaui.com/prop_main.php?id=430&_id=1

There are several hotels and rental houses in Kihei, which is on the ocean. I will create a blog entry soon with the best hotel/houses available for the money.

First, we'd like to thank everyone who has given us their love and support the entire period of our relationship. We'd also like to thank everyone who is considering making the journey to Hawaii. We know it's a long trip and it means everything to us you'd considering going that far to share our day with us. We can't wait to get married and start the rest of our lives with our loved ones there to see it.
